In January , Škoda Auto laid the foundation stone of its plant in
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad until ), becoming the rst
Volkswagen Group brand to establish a foothold in the Indian market.
The rst locally assembled model was the Škoda Octavia. Today, India
has become a key market in Škoda’s internationalisation strategy, helping
the company tap into existing sales potential in regions such as ASEAN,
the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. Since , Škoda Auto has
overseen all Volkswagen Group activities in the region. Currently, the brand
has developed and locally produces three models based on the MQB
A-IN platform specically adapted for India: The Kushaq, the Slavia,
and most recently,
the compact SUV
Kylaq, expanding
Škoda’s model
range in the highly
popular sub--metre
segment.
