Fifty-ve years ago, Bohuslav Čtvrtečka was given
just a few weeks to learn Spanish and handed a plane
ticket to Chile. There, he spent two years training local
workers to assemble what was then a hit model from the
Czechoslovak automaker – the Škoda Octavia Combi.
The Octavia Combi was a car that captured the world’s
imagination and, in the s, was the dream vehicle
for many Czechoslovak families, as well as holiday home
and cottage owners. Few people know that large-scale
assembly from CKD kits also took place in Chile at
the turn of the s and s. Over two years,
to Octavia Combi cars were assembled in Chile
under basic conditions and primarily by hand. Supervising
the assembly was a -year-old employee from the
Kvasiny plant, Mr Bohuslav Čtvrtečka.
