Benzin, nebo elektro? Nabídneme to nejlepší
Škoda Auto slaví 130 let v době, kdy automobilový průmysl prochází dosud největší transformací. Jak firma tuto změnu zvládá, přiblížil předseda představenstva Klaus Zellmer v rozhovoru. V něm představil aktualizovanou Next Level Škoda Strategii a uvedl, jaká nabídka modelů zajistí budoucnost Škoda Auto.
Auta z podhůří Krkonoš
Pravidelná rubrika věnovaná 130. výročí firmy a událostem, které se staly v srpnu, se tentokrát zaměřila na to, jaké vozy Škoda vyráběl vrchlabský závod v dobách, než se transformoval v továrnu na výrobu převodovek. Věděli jste například, že se stal rodištěm bezpočtu užitkových derivátů vozů, včetně sanitních, nebo že zde vznikaly luxusní vozy určené pro export?
Bezpapírová kancelář
Od chvíle, kdy ve Škoda Auto vznikl projekt Paperless Office neboli Bezpapírová kancelář, celkový objem tisků a papírových formulářů klesá. Velkou část se podařilo digitalizovat, některé dokonce zrušit. Papírové dokumenty zůstaly jen tam, kde existoval legislativní požadavek. A ačkoli se do digitalizace zapojila celá automobilka, vede k čistě bezpapírové kanceláři ještě dlouhá cesta.
Škoda doprovodila strhující show
Závěrečnou etapou s cílem na Champs-Élysées skončil 112. ročník Tour de France. Oddělení Škoda Design opět vytvořilo trofeje pro celkového šampiona, jímž se letos stal Tadej Pogačar, vítěze bodovací a vrchařské klasifikace i pro nejlepšího mladého jezdce. Česká automobilka byla zároveň sponzorem zeleného trikotu a dodavatelem téměř 220 elektrifikovaných automobilů pro potřeby pořadatelů.
Škoda Powers a Thrilling Race
The 112th edition of the Tour de France ended with the final stage finishing on the Champs-Élysées. The Škoda Design department once again created trophies for the overall champion, Tadej Pogačar, the winner of the points and mountain classifications, and the best young rider. Škoda was also the sponsor of the green jersey and the supplier of almost 220 electric cars for the organizers' needs.
Combustion or Electric – We Offer the Best
Škoda Auto is celebrating its 130th anniversary at a time when the automotive industry is undergoing its greatest transformation yet. . Klaus Zellmer, Chairman of the Board, explained how the company is handling this change in an interview. In it, he presented the updated Next Level Škoda Strategy and outlined the range of models that will secure Škoda Auto's future.
Paperless office
Since Škoda Auto launched this project, the total volume of printouts and paper forms has been declining. A large part has been digitized, and some have even been eliminated. Paper documents remain only where there is a legal requirement. And although the entire car manufacturer has been involved in the digitization process, there is still a long way to go before achieving a completely paperless office.
Cars from the Foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains
This regular column dedicated to the company's 130th anniversary and events that took place in August focused on the types of cars that the Vrchlabí plant produced before it was transformed into a gearbox factory. Did you know, for example, that it became the birthplace of countless commercial vehicle derivatives, including ambulances, or that luxury cars intended for export were produced there?
Elroq RS ukázal svou sílu
Více než dvě stovky novinářů se zúčastnilo prezentace sportovního elektrického modelu Škoda Elroq RS. Otestovali si ho nejen na cestě z Letiště Václava Havla do Břehyně u Máchova jezera, ale i na tamním polygonu společnosti Aurel. Ten umožňuje zkoušet vozy na rozmanitých površích i v různých jízdních situacích. Na místě se jim pak představil i nový koncept Enyaq RS Race z dílny Škoda Motorsport.
Elroq RS flexes its power
More than 200 journalists attended the presentation of the Škoda Elroq RS model. They tested it on the route from Václav Havel Airport to Břehyně near Lake Mácha and on the local Aurel track. This facility allows for testing on a variety of surfaces and in different driving conditions. The new Enyaq RS Race concept from Škoda Motorsport was also showcased on site.
All-wheel drives travel through Albania
A group of journalists and influencers set off on an adventurous trip through the Balkans in Octavia and Karoq cars with all-wheel drive. The Let’s Explore Albania event highlighted the advantages of these cars, which can handle even mountain terrain and gravel roads. Whilst camping, participants also tried out equipment from the Škoda E-Shop, including sleeping bags, blankets and outdoor cutlery.
„Čtyřkolky“ projely Albánii
Na dobrodružnou výpravu Balkánem se vydali vybraní novináři a influenceři ve vozech Octavia a Karoq s pohonem všech čtyř kol. Akce Let’s Explore Albania ukázala přednosti těchto vozů, které si poradí i s náročným horským terénem či dlouhými trasami po štěrkových cestách. Při kempování si účastníci vyzkoušeli také vybavení z nabídky Škoda E-Shopu – spacáky, deky či outdoorové nádobí.
It began with a single track
130 years ago, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement joined forces to manufacture bicycles. It wasn’t long before they fitted their bicycles with small engines. These single-track vehicles formed the foundations for Škoda Auto. And the carmaker hasn’t forgotten its roots, as it continues to support cycling at all levels, from amateur enthusiasts to the world’s most famous race, the Tour de France.
Superb student car heads to the Tour de France
The latest student car, designed by pupils at the Škoda Auto Vocational School under the supervision of practical training instructors and based on the Superb Combi iV model, commemorates the carmaker’s anniversary and its connection to cycling. The 10th concept has been named L&K 130 and takes the form of a support vehicle for cycling races. It is also set to appear at the Tour de France.
Začalo to jednou stopou
Před 130 lety se dali dohromady Václavové Laurin a Klement a pustili se do výroby jízdních kol. Netrvalo dlouho a bicykly opatřili motorovým pohonem. Jednostopé dopravní prostředky tak položily základy dnešní společnosti Škoda Auto. A ta na ně rozhodně nezanevřela. Cyklistiku podporuje od „hobby“ úrovně až po nejslavnější světový závod Tour de France.
Žákovský Superb míří na Tour de France
Na výročí založení automobilky i její spojení s cyklistikou odkazuje nejnovější žákovský vůz, který na základě modelu Superb Combi iV zkonstruovali studentky a studenti Středního odborného učiliště strojírenského pod vedením mistrů odborného výcviku. Desátý koncept v tomto projektu dostal název L&K 130 a má podobu doprovodného vozidla pro cyklistické závody. Ukáže se proto i na Tour de France.

5At the beginning of 1959, there was ahectic atmosphere at the former AZNP plant inMladá Boleslav. The proven ŠKODA 440 and 445 “Spartak” models mingled with thenew design, the OCTAVIA/OCTAVIA SUPER line, on the production line. In addition toamodified body, the OCTAVIA family car also flaunted an improved chassis. The front axlewas dampened by maintenance-free coil springs supplemented by atorsion stabiliser,instead of across-mounted elliptical leaf spring. The management considered thisinnovation so revolutionary that it chose to abandon the existing numerical designationand introduce the model under anew word designation: OCTAVIA.EighthOCTAVIA refers to the Latin term octo,eight. It was the eighth model of thebrand created after the Second WorldWar and also the eighth generationof the developmental series with thebackbone chassis, which had startedwith the POPULAR.Our Grandfathers’PridePracticalIn September 1960, the OCTAVIA COMBI version had itspremiere at the Brno Trade Fair. When the horizontallydivided double-leaf door was opened, the lower partextended the loading area of the luggage compartmentand facilitated loading and unloading. Ardent travellersappreciated the foldable seats oered by the facelift in1961: The folded front seats continued to the rear seatcushions, and, when removed, the rear backrests served asbolsters for sleeping.Elegant and ProgressiveDuring the 1961 facelift, the gear shift levermoved from under the steering wheelto the floor. The change brought moreaccurate and faster shifting. The designersmade the model more attractive by raisingthe rear fenders, ending with teardrop-typecompound lamps.Simply CleverThe carmaker was thinkingof its customers even whenthere were waiting listsseveral years long. Among others,four OCTAVIA oldtimer crews took part, informallycelebrating the 60th anniversary of this flagshipmodel’smarket launch. After crossing the finishline of the 100th rally, the participants shared afewthoughts about their cars.My First Historic CarFor Martin Kvaizar of EKR/2, his blue 1962OCTAVIA is one of many historic cars inhis possession. However, it was the firstand, therefore, he pampers it very much.“Ibought the car in 2004, shortly after Igotmy driver’slicense,” he says. He is the thirdowner and does most of the work on the car athome with his father. We have had it since 2013,and since then, we have continuedthe mechanical part of renovationsevery year,” Melichar says. “Dadalways shows o to the whole familywhat’snew about the car. 13In 1995, Ihad been working as ayoung designerin the Design of Serial Stamping Tools departmentfor only two years. One of the tasks assigned tome by my supervisor, Ing. Otto Kučera, was theconstruction of the pulling tool for the productionof the side part of the OCTAVIA COMBI. Theouter side is the core moulding of each car’sbody.It is dicult to manufacture in terms of bothdimensions and the complexity of the design ofthe moulding process, including the tool design.Moreover, such acomplex part had never beenproduced in the car factory before. Nevertheless,in cooperation with the outstanding designerJosef Ulrych, aunique pulling tool was created.With its weight of over 60 tonnes, it was theheaviest not only in our plant but probably also inEurope. It was necessary to purchase the largestand most powerful hydraulic press in the Groupfor its incorporation before serial productionstarted. The completion of this demanding taskwas finished with the celebratory stamping ofthe first part of the side, which was attended byrepresentatives of our government, along with theGroup management. To this day, Istill rememberthisfunny story: the government security detailrefused to believe that ahardly 25-year-oldboy could be the designer of this complicated“monster” and refused to let me participate in thisbig moment. After 25 years, it is still nice to seethe result of ajoint eort of all who contributedto the emergence of this legend with enthusiasm,dedication and diligence. 17IOwn aRarityIown the grey OCTAVIA ICOMBI RS model inits original state, produced in 2004, which hasalready driven 250,000 kilometres. Its engineis in perfect condition. The stier RS chassis isless comfortable, but it can withstand and holdbeautifully in almost any situation. This year,Itook the car on aroad trip to the Balkans, whereit covered 4,500 km in 18 days and travelledthrough nine countries. It managed the entireroute without asingle hesitation aside from oneflat tyre, which was not its fault. Thecar’smost interesting feature is its modification fortravelling – since my girlfriend and Ialso use thecar for longer trips, camping or just free overnightsleep, we’ve made numerous modifications. Theyinvolved the car’srecreational style but kept theadvantages of unobtrusiveness and economy.These include, for example, hot-water independentheating, abuilt-in fan for vapour removal, acurtainsystem for total blackout in places where there isalways light (apolar day), ahanging wardrobe and,above all, an integrated shower with water heating.The perfect technical condition of the car is due tous taking care of it as if it was afamily member.Michal Novák, VA/2It HoldsI’m one of the happy owners, and Iswearby this car. Allof them could be purchased withthe top interior equipment calledLaurin & Klement.Production on the second generation began in2004, and the model built on the success of itspredecessor by being even greater in almost everyrespect. There were a number of variations (e.g. thevery first SCOUT model, the more environmentallyfriendly GREENLINE or the first hint of an electricalfuture with the GREEN E LINE type), but mostof all, the car really went out into the world, andproduction also started at VW Group plants abroad.Both Modern and DesignOur customers appreciated our eort to keep the bestprice vs. quality ratio, and our OCTAVIA started competingwith middle class cars as well, primarily because of the newtechnologies it oered. In addition to the standard ABS andautomatic braking system, the car featured parking and rainsensors, including an EBS system. Its safety was increased byadding the automatic activation of its warning lights duringan emergency brake. In 2007, the car radio’s cassette playerwas replaced with a CD player, and the device could playMP3s, too. The third generation featured theFront Assist system for automatic car stopping in case of animpending accident. It also became possible to connect one’smobile phone or tablet. Full-LED headlights were added duringthe car’s modernisation in 2015.Safety FirstThe gold standard among safety tests, Euro NCAP Agency, awardedthe third generation the best possible rating in 2013. Since then,ŠKODA cars have regularly received the full five-star rating.Ecological with CNG DriveIn 2014, the economical GREENLINE version wasfollowed up by the OCTAVIA model with its G-TECvariant with natural gas drive. It would becomeespecially popular with corporate customers, who enjoygreat savings despite high mileage. A CNG tank is goodfor 410 km after switching to petrol, the total rangeincreases by 920 km. The traditional OCTAVIA driveshave been exceptionally economical as well and havelong ranked high in the Economy Run competition.New BloodThe third-generation successor was even lighter,safer, more advanced and more spacious in terms oftechnical parameters. We believe that we havesucceeded and that the newest OCTAVIA will bethe most successful one yet. It will have a numberof innovations in design and control mode andlogic, and it will oer a host of new features.With the MQB-37-W platform, the new on-boardnetwork architecture, new generations of driveunits and their hybrid versions are also introduced,which will significantly contribute to improvingthe CO2emissions level. The second-generation OCTAVIAtook five years, while the third generationstarted up in a year and a half. The latest onehas required extensive modernisation in thearea of Production and Logistics. Among otherthings, the Welding Shop is increasing thenumber of robotic towers, and a new line forthe fifth door, body, PSD roof, sides and so onis being prepared. The update of the robotprogram in the Paint Shop allowed for theuse of two new metallic colours. Assemblyhas undergone major changes. We modifiedthe door conveyor hinges to ensure their pre-assembly o the line. The sunroof’s dierentshape and concept require a new manipulatorto be incorporated into the car and for furthercockpit assembly. The new engines requiredmodifications to the equipment for pre-assembly, as well as the assembly of units inthe car.Miroslav VejčíkPAC – COMPACT Project Start-up LeadershipAmong the BestAerodynamics is one of the key parametersaecting the production of CO2, and itsimportance has increased with the adventof WLTP. Therefore, we have left nothing tochance, and before starting the development,we produced an innovative project: AerostudieOCTAVIA 2020. The shape quality is determinedby the coecient of aerodynamic drag (cd),which allows a comparison between various cars.The new OCTAVIA is one of theworld’s best cars in terms ofair drag and comparable topremium brand models.With the COMBI version,we are at a peak cd value of0.26, ensuring an impressive14% improvement inaerodynamics comparedwith the faceliftedpredecessor of thethird generation!Such animprovement incdwill reduce fuelconsumption inthe WLTC testcycle by 0.16 l/100 km.And for highway driving,it is actually 0.5l/100km. 31Spirited and More MatureAlthough almost identical in size to its predecessor,the fourth generation has overall shapes that are muchsmoother, more graceful and elegant at the first glance. Itsdynamic expression is supported by the lower front mask,more inclined C-pillar, shaped sides from which the wheelsprotrude, as well as other elements. Proportion is alwaysthe key to good design. Thanks to the upright mask and thedistinctive side bead over the entire length of the car, thenew OCTAVIA looks more mature. There wasa great challenge among some common tasks.We had to test all the electronic features thathave been added to the new OCTAVIA regardingconnectivity and the assistance systems.Several dozen control units ensure the correctfunctioning in some levels of themodel trim. Higher demandswere taken into account in the preparation ofthe OCTAVIA oer concept. We also consideredthe specifics of the Chinese and Indian markets.The Chinese drivers’ product requirements diersignificantly from the European ones, for example.They emphasise the latest technology and expectmore chrome elements in cars. The result is a visibledierence, especially around the bumper and lights,as well as inside the car. At the same time, you willnot find the COMBI version and diesel engines inthe oer.The OCTAVIA will appeal to customers aroundthe world with its attractive dynamic design, largeinterior space, wide range of modern assistancesystems, engines meeting the strictest emissionstandards and a brand-new interior that hasundergone a revolutionary development.
