Škoda Mobil, the employee newspaper of the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker, includes special supplements that focus on especially important topics from Škoda's perspective. ŠKODA AUTO did the testing on theroutes Mladá Boleslav – Bielefeldand Uznach, also together with the for-warders, Yusen Logistics and CS Cargo.The truck has a range of , km and ispowered by liquefied natural gas (LNG),which is considerably more eco-frien-dly than conventional fuels. In comparis-on with diesel engines, its production ofparticulate matter is lower by %, nit-ro-gen oxide by % and CO by %.The noise level caused by combustion is % lower. The main advantage of LNGas compared to CNG is its three timessmaller volume – and therefore a three ti-mes longer range with the same tank vo-lume. An LNG tractor unit can reach upto , km. Being a match for dieseltrucks, it becomes an interesting alter-native for heavy, long-distance haulage.Vehicles powered by LNG are % morefuel-efficient and appear to be a goodsubstitute for diesel.The implementation of LNG propulsi-on in truck transport is hampered main-ly by the weak infra-structure, which con-sists of approx. Train dispatchers andengine drivers receive vocationaleducation, shunters are trained.A Considerate FutureŠKODA AUTO is expecting tostrengthen its rail transport inthe future, as it is more eco-fri-endly than road transport. Howe-ver, its kick-in is restrained by thelack of special railway trucks, in-suffi-cient traffic routes and thenumber of locomotives.
