Skoda Supplements

Škoda Mobil, the employee newspaper of the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker, includes special supplements that focus on especially important topics from Škoda's perspective. Supplements can be a part of the newspaper, in the same format as the newspaper, inserted, for example, in the form of a flyer, or they can be stand-alone unique magazines in a specific format, such as supplements dedicated to new models, the brand's historical anniversaries, or other important information from the company's environment.

    Škoda Auto, in cooperation with the
    KOVO Trade Union, has been actively
    involved in cleaning up nature every
    spring and autumn since  as part
    of its commitment to environmental
    protection and sustainability under
    its GreenFuture strategy. Škoda
    volunteers (including employees and
    their family members, interns, trainees
    and students from the Škoda Auto
    Vocational School) participate in these
    clean-ups. As part of its involvement
    in the nationwide Clean Up the Czech
    Republic campaign, the carmaker
    focuses on waste collection in the
    regions of its plants: the Mladá Boleslav,
    Rychnov and Vrchlabí regions. Individual
    departments across Škoda Auto also
    organise team meetings as aseparate
    activity (see Other volunteer events of
    this year).
    “Sustainability is akey part of Škoda
    Auto’sstrategy, as demonstrated by
    our wide range of activities aimed
    at environmental protection,” says
    Maren Gräf, Board Member for People
    & Culture. “In cooperation with the
    KOVO Trade Union, we emphasise the
    benefits of personal involvement of
    each individual. Igreatly appreciate the
    participation of all volunteers and thank
    the conservationists for their long-term
    help with the environment around our
    plants, not only during the Clean Up
    the Czech Republic challenge and Earth
    Day celebrations.”
    This year’sclean-ups under the
    carmaker’sauspices started in Mladá
    Boleslav in April, continued in Vrchlabí
    in May and near Kvasiny in early June.
    Mladá Boleslav region
    This year, volunteers first headed
    to the forests of Martinovice on
     April, located under the municipality
    of Březno near Mladá Boleslav. The
    organisation of the meeting was
    managed by ČSOP Klenice (Czech
    Union of Nature Conservationists).
    The Klenice River, mainly known to
    mushroom pickers, also originates in
    this area. Thanks to this event, it was
    possible to clear it of waste that has
    been accumulating since the s.
    Volunteers collected various items
    such as cables, tyres, glass and plastic
    bottles, as well as old clothes from local
    illegal dumping sites known as “shards”.
    In total, nearly tonnes of waste was
    removed from the site. “Abig thank
    you to all the volunteers, as well as our
    partner organisation, ČSOP Klenice,
    and František Vondráček, alocal
    forester, for the waste removal and the
    insightful lecture about local fauna and
    flora,” adds Michal Kadera, Head of the
    SR – External Aairs department.
    Vrchlabí region
    Employees from the production plant
    in Vrchlabí, along with the organising
    administration of the Krkonoše
    National Park, set out to clean up the
    Medvědín ski slope on  May. The
    event in the mountainous environment
    attracted many people who combined
    spending time in nature with helping
    the forests. Here, they collected
    approximately tonnes of waste.
    Rychnov region
    On  June, the spring round of clean-
    ups concluded with an event near
    Šerlich in the Orlické Mountains,
    where employees and other volunteers
    from the Kvasiny plant traditionally
    participated. The popular tourist
    spot prompted local conservationists
    from ČSOP Prorubky to focus on
    the mountain ridge and surrounding
    forests.

    250 volunteers who collectively gathered more
    than 8.1 tonnes of waste in their free time.

    Students from Škoda Auto
    University also helped to
    clean up the Martinovice
    forest this year.
    Other volunteer
    events of this year
    Škoda employees and individual teams
    are also involved in various clean-up
    activities through the Škoda Volunteers
    employee group. They help in removing
    windbreaks and self-seeding plants from
    nature, restoring pools and ponds and
    helping to mow meadows. Here is alist of
    afew of this year’sevents.
    Green Logistics
    The Green Logistics team is dedicated
    to reducing the environmental impact of
    logistics. For the third year, members of
    the team visited the Krkonoše National
    Park (KRNAP) to help with forest
    restoration. This year, the chosen site was
    in the Harrachov–Rýžoviště area, where
    the logistics team cleared windbreaks of
    branches and trunk stumps to make room
    for the new trees to grow.
    Interns
    Škoda logistics interns focused on
    clearing self-seeding plants and brambles
    in aforest meadow near Vlkava. Within
    afew years, this area had become
    completely overgrown with self-seeded
    bushes and trees, displacing the highly
    endangered purple lady orchids. This site
    was one of only four places in the Mladá
    Boleslav region where these orchids still
    grew.
    Technical Service Assembly Shops
    In May, employees of the PFS-M –
    Technical Service Assembly Shops
    department, in cooperation with the
    local KRNAP administration, took part
    in avolunteer event to clear the forest
    area in Benecko of branches and logging
    debris.
    Trainers and coaches
    Employees of VAQ – Sales and After
    Sales Training Academy cleaned up the
    area behind the former meat processing
    plant in Kosmonosy. Within afew hours,
    they collected several bags of garbage,
    tyres and other litter, ridding the nature
    of unnecessary and, for some animals,
    potentially dangerous waste.
    Production System
    Volunteers from the PSI-P – Production
    System department removed non-native
    self-seeded pine trees in the Bohemian
    Paradise near Žehrovský Forest. Since
    commonly used machinery could not be
    employed, the task required manpower,
    lever shears, hand saws and more. The
    employees tackled this challenge with
    enthusiasm, and within afew hours
    of intensive work, they cut down
    asignificant number of trees, helping to
    rid the forest of non-native species.
    Serial Pilot Hall
    Employees from the PF1/1 – Pilot Hall
    MB Idepartment were tasked with
    removing self-seeding plants and cutting
    brambles and old grass on the Vyskeř Hill.
    Under the supervision of the Bohemian
    Paradise Protected Landscape Area sta,
    they cleared aconsiderable amount of
    self-seeding plants from the top of the
    hill, which featured relatively dicult and
    sloping terrain, and burned alarge part
    of it.

    environmental friendliness
    and resource conservation
    are core values at Škoda
    Auto. The carmaker’smain
    goal is to minimise its
    ecological footprint
    throughout the entire
    value chain, acommitment
    it has pursued for more
    than 10 years through its
    GreenFuture strategy. In
    addition, in line with the VW
    Group’snew sustainability
    strategy called regenerate+
    (see the May 2024
    issue of Škoda Mobil), it
    supports the preservation
    of biodiversity and
    sustainable ecosystems. For
