Škoda Mobil, the employee newspaper of the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker, includes special supplements that focus on especially important topics from Škoda's perspective. Supplements can be a part of the newspaper, in the same format as the newspaper, inserted, for example, in the form of a flyer, or they can be stand-alone unique magazines in a specific format, such as supplements dedicated to new models, the brand's historical anniversaries, or other important information from the company's environment.

13The new ENYAQ iV is not onlyemission-free on the road atthe local level: ŠKODA AUTOalso supplies it to customers withacarbon-neutral production emis-sion balance. This is possible thanksto anumber of measures. Whichones are they?Production process optimisationThe carmaker is constantly innovat-ing its operation and production pro-cesses. The Vrchlabí plant is the firstat ŠKODA AUTO to use all its energyfor production from carbon-neutralsources since the end of . In thisdecade, some of the carmaker’sotherfacilities in the Czech Republic will joinit. The brand’slogistics have also, forexample, developed the OPTIKONapplication, which uses artificial intelli-gence to ensure the ideal use of spacein containers. In the first half of alone, container transports and,thus, tonnes of COemissionswere prevented.Monitoring of COemissions inthe supply chainŠKODA AUTO ensures that COemissions in the supply chain, the en-tire production process and logisticsare reduced proportionately – alsoby using electricity from renewablesources – or completely prevented.For example, LG guarantees the useof electricity from renewable sourc-es in the production of batteries forENYAQ iV. Many other partners alsoguarantee environmentally friendlyproduction processes. The calcula-tion of the remaining COemissionsis based on the specific environmen-tal balance of the ENYAQ iV, whichis certified by TÜV NORD CERT. Italso verifies the ongoing emissionsthat are associated with it. On thecertificates, it confirms the correct-ness of the registration of all the COemissions within the entire life cycleand classification of the ENYAQiVmodel as aproduct with aneutralCObalance when it is delivered tocustomers.Car and battery recyclingCOemissions during the life cyclealso include car recycling. First, thedrive batteries get a“second life” inŠKODA iV smart energy storage de-vices. Next, they are recycled and theused raw materials are further used.COemissions from car recycling areconsidered in the balance.Emission compensation throughcertified projectsAcertain share of COemis-sions arising from the production(suppliers and production) of theENYAQiV model cannot be avoid-ed yet. The carmaker compensatesfor them by purchasing certified car-bon credits, which it does by sup-porting climate protection projects,such as the construction of alargewind farm in Tamil Nadu in south-ern India. Its fi-bres can be processed and used, for exam-ple, in the manufacturing of door linings.The carmaker already uses anumber ofsustainable materials in production how-ever, it intends to go even further. “Wewant to be sustainability pioneers. For us,this means much more than just reduc-ing the COemissions of our model range.That is why we prefer ecologically pro-duced materials. For example, we’re cur-rently exploring how to make greater useof waste products, such as coee grounds,coconut fibre and rice husks”, adds Jo-hannes Neft, Board Member for Techni-cal Development. The use of sustainablematerials significantly reduces our carbonfootprint, especially if they come from re-newable sources near production plants.Organic production waste that can be re-cycled without the need for other materi-als is ideal and reduces the need for indus-trially produced primary materials.
